Case study: Bath Spa University & Mytton Williams

New creative direction for Bath Spa University

Bath Spa University is a leading university for creativity, culture, enterprise and education. It has been working with Belmont Press and design and brand agency Mytton Williams for several years, but its 2015 undergraduate prospectus had a strikingly different style.

Bath Spa University wanted a prospectus that was innovative and creative in its design, drawing attention to the creative focus of the University. Mytton Williams worked with illustrator Matthew Hodson, a Bath Spa graduate, to create a montage illustrating the different courses on offer with a new energetic style. The prospectus has a plain white cover with a window through which you view the illustration, leading you into the prospectus.

Embracing challenges, delivering result

Sophie Eyles, Studio Manager at Mytton Williams described working with Belmont Press: “Our experience has always been positive. For the Bath Spa Undergraduate Prospectus, two challenges were: Making sure that the colour on the illustrations could be reproduced perfectly, and also producing the cover pages with die cut. We found Belmont Press to be very helpful and proactive in testing things out, making suggestions and finding solutions. The stakes for this project were relatively high: This was the first in a new suite of prospectuses, with a new design direction using illustration, so the printed results had to be impressive and we felt that Belmont Press understood this and delivered the print very well.”

Sophie added: “Belmont Press were reassuring to work with because their level of experience and communication were excellent. They addressed our many queries promptly (and cheerfully!) which made our job easier during the busy final stages before print. “

These comments were echoed by Tessa Griffiths, Head of Marketing and Communications at Bath Spa University who said: “Although we commission the print, I’m happy for Belmont Press to collaborate directly with the design company because I’m completely confident in their abilities and I’m always pleased with the result. We go out to competitive tender and Belmont Press are very competitively priced. They are also happy to store our prospectuses for us or meet any additional requirements.”

Overall, the key benefits in working with Belmont Press are:

  • Competitive pricing
  • Attention to quality and detail
  • Reliability, knowledge and experience
  • Confidence in the quality and delivery of the finished print
  • A collaborative and ‘can do’ approach
  • Professionalism and responsiveness
  • The ability to provide additional services such as storage facilities
