Case study: University of Exeter

High quality print and fulfilment service for the University of Exeter

The University of Exeter is one of the fastest-growing universities in the UK and was named The Sunday Times University of the Year 2012/13. It is also ranked first among the Russell Group universities for student satisfaction.

Belmont Press won the tender for print services for the University due to a combination of competitive pricing, excellent customer service and outstanding print quality.

Outstanding print quality

Following completion of the Undergraduate Prospectus 2016, Carole Fitzgerald, Head of Design and Publications at the University of Exeter, is delighted with the results. She explains: “The prospectus is a big project for us as it is designed in-house and, working with our colleagues in the marketing team, takes us around six months to complete. We invested quite a lot in new photography this year and you can see the obvious value in that due to the quality of the print. It looks great, and the contrast in the images is very good.”

Collaborative process

“As we’re only a small team, we rely on the production expertise of our Belmont Press Account Manager. It is very much a collaborative process, working together to ensure that the prospectus is on time, on budget, looks fabulous and is delivered to the right place. Once again, Belmont Press have helped us to achieve all of these.”

Carole continues: “We are very pleased with both the smooth running of the project and the quality of the print, which has prompted some very positive feedback. What sets Belmont Press apart is their account management and customer service. They are proactive with their communication and identify any issues that might arise early, making them easier to deal with.”

Seamless fulfilment service

Prospective students can request a copy of the prospectus, along with additional information about the courses on offer, by using the University of Exeter website. The fulfilment and mailing is handled entirely by Belmont Press, who created a customised interface to retrieve data from the University website. The interface takes the data entered by the prospective student and applies a complex set of rules to identify which leaflets should be sent. It then produces a personalised letter that refers to the relevant documents, plus despatch instructions for Belmont Press staff.

Members of the marketing and design and publications teams at the University can log onto their own branded online Dashboard to check the status of any job or the stock levels of all marketing materials. The whole process operates seamlessly to the satisfaction of both the University of Exeter and its prospective students. It recently received the following feedback from a prospective student in Singapore: “I’m very pleased to say that yours was one of the first prospectuses that got to me from the UK. The rest are still on their way, even when I’ve requested them on the same day. So that’s a great feat for being so efficient, as it usually takes a very long time for a delivery from the UK to Singapore.  So thank you…”
