Case study: London 2012

High quality and high volume printing for London 2012

Belmont Press was an official printer to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralymic Games, working with LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd) and the ODA (Olympic Delivery Authority) for five years. During this time Belmont Press printed over 950 publications for LOCOG and 150 for the ODA.

Belmont Press was selected following an extensive tender procedure, and the company’s experience in delivering high volume, high quality print to strict deadlines was a key factor in the winning the contract.

Official Ticketing Guide

One of the largest print projects was the London 2012 Official Ticketing Guide. This A4 4-colour 64pp publication (plus 4pp cover) allowed the public to understand the ticketing process and order tickets via post. It was the first major visible publication of the Games, and over 2.6 million copies of the guides were printed and distributed all around the country.

Ticket Wallets and Spectator Guides

For every ticket bought at the Games, a spectator guide to the relevant sport was printed. This A3 publication, folded to DL size, provided information about the event and venue. There were 63 variants, each one referring to a different Olympic or Paralympic sport.

All tickets were delivered in a bespoke ticket wallet, and nearly 2 million of these were printed and finished in-house at Belmont Press. The ticket wallet was the first branded item that each spectator saw when receiving their tickets, so they needed to be of the highest quality.

Belmont Press worked closely with Ticketmaster to ensure that the ticketing process ran smoothly.

Stationery

Belmont Press printed almost 1.5 million letterheads, which were used by LOCOG in the build-up and during the Games.
